An Agile Scout with Reinforced Armor
The T-70 tank was developed as a direct replacement for the older T-60 type. It received thicker armor and a more powerful 45mm gun, which gave it a chance even against lighter German armor. Although it still suffered from the disadvantage of a two-man crew, where the commander also had to operate the gun, it became the second most produced Soviet tank of the war. Its design was smoothly followed by the more advanced T-80 type, which finally introduced a more spacious two-man turret, significantly easing the commander's workload in combat.
