A Lethal Weapon on the Ground and in the Air
The development of this exceptionally successful gun began at the Krupp factory in Essen back in 1928. Although the FlaK (Flugabwehrkanone) was primarily designed to protect the skies, it soon became apparent that its high muzzle velocity and penetration capabilities made it a perfect anti-tank weapon. On the battlefields, it could destroy most contemporary enemy armor at distances exceeding 1,000 meters. For relocation, the heavy gun used two single-axle transport bogies, typically towed by powerful half-track prime movers (such as the Sd.Kfz. 7).
