A Post-War Pioneer of Wheeled Armor
The BTR-40 vehicle was developed in the late nineteen forties using the chassis of the proven GAZ-63 truck. Its main task was the transport of motorized infantry and carrying out reconnaissance missions. The machine featured an open-topped hull with sloped armor, providing basic protection against small arms fire and artillery shrapnel. Although it was later replaced by more modern and fully enclosed types, it played a key role in building the post-war Soviet army and saw massive export to allied countries.
