Born for Records

The DH.88 Comet was not built for the military, but with a single goal: to win the famous MacRobertson Air Race from London to Melbourne, Australia, in 1934. De Havilland's designers opted for an extremely slender fuselage, retractable landing gear, and an enclosed cockpit, which represented an absolute revolution at the time. Although only three were originally built, their influence on the future development of fast twin-engine aircraft (including the later famous Mosquito bomber) was enormous.

Black Magic by Oxford

In this category, we have a true collector's gem prepared for you. The model by Oxford faithfully captures the specific DH.88 named "Black Magic," flown in the race by the famous aviation couple, Jim and Amy Mollison. The 1:72 scale model excels not only in its perfect rendering of the aerodynamic lines but above all in its beautiful and historically accurate black and gold livery. Thanks to its solid metal construction, the model has a pleasing weight and will be the centerpiece of any display on its elegant stand.
