The Puma was designed for maximum mobility in challenging terrain, aided by its advanced eight-wheel drive chassis with independent suspension and a powerful diesel engine. Unlike other reconnaissance vehicles, the Puma was equipped with a fully enclosed turret housing a 5cm KwK 39 L/60 gun. This armament allowed the machine not only to conduct deep reconnaissance but also, if necessary, to actively defend itself against attacks from light and medium enemy tanks.
