It could fly so high and fast that contemporary fighters simply could not reach it. This highly successful aircraft served in many roles—from a tactical bomber and high-altitude reconnaissance machine to a nuclear weapons carrier. Its outstanding design resonated worldwide, and it was even manufactured under license in the United States as the Martin B-57.
