A Swallow Over the Pacific
The name "Hien" translates to flying swallow, which perfectly described the graceful lines of this aircraft. Thanks to its engine (derived from the German DB 601) and heavy armament, the Ki-61 strongly deviated from the traditional Japanese design school. It offered excellent performance in a dive and good armor protection, making it a very dangerous opponent even for heavily armed Allied bombers and robust American fighters.
Collector's Gems in 1:72 Scale
In this category, you can choose from historically accurate representations. The model from the British brand Oxford meticulously captures a machine operating from the Chofu base near Tokyo in the winter of 1944/1945, which participated in the defense of the Japanese home islands. An alternative is the attractive model by De Agostini featuring a distinctive mottled camouflage. Both aircraft come with a practical plastic stand, ensuring they stand out in any WWII military hardware collection.
