A Rocket Predator with Short Breath

The Me-163 Komet was the only operationally deployed rocket-powered fighter aircraft of World War II. Its revolutionary Walter rocket engine allowed it to reach an incredible speed approaching 1000 km/h and a phenomenal rate of climb, enabling it to strike Allied bomber formations in a flash. However, the price for this performance was an extremely short flight time (often just a few minutes) and highly volatile fuel, which caused more accidents and fatalities among its own pilots than enemy fire. After exhausting its fuel, the aircraft returned to base unpowered as a glider.

Collector's Value and Captured Versions

For military history enthusiasts, the Me-163 represents a necessary addition to any collection focused on Luftwaffe innovations. A point of interest in our 1:72 scale range are the captured versions. You will find, for example, a machine in British colors (RAF) tested after the war by the legendary test pilot Captain Eric "Winkle" Brown (die-cast model by Oxford), or other variants by the Easy Model brand (plastic). The models feature an accurate replication of the unusual aerodynamic shapes, a clean surface finish, and a detailed rendering of the specific landing skid.
