The First Supersonic Fighter of the PLAAF

Production of the Shenyang J-6 began in China in the late 1950s, and the aircraft quickly became the cornerstone of the nation's air defense. Thanks to its highly swept wing and a pair of powerful jet engines, the aircraft could exceed the speed of sound in level flight. Its robust construction and firepower, typically consisting of three 30mm cannons, made it a dangerous opponent in maneuvering air combat. During its long service, the aircraft underwent many modernizations and also became a significant export commodity.
