The development of the Panther was significantly rushed, which took its toll during its first massive deployment at the Battle of Kursk, where the machines suffered from numerous technical failures. However, after resolving these initial teething problems, the Sd.Kfz. 171 tank became one of the most effective combat vehicles on the battlefield. Its long 7.5cm KwK 42 L/70 gun and innovative sloped armor made it a deadly threat to most Allied equipment on both the Eastern and Western fronts.
