The MiG-3 was equipped with a powerful liquid-cooled engine, which gave it excellent speed and climb rate at high altitudes. Unfortunately, the air battles on the Eastern Front mostly took place at low altitudes, where this aircraft was at a disadvantage against more maneuverable German machines. Nevertheless, it played a significant role, particularly in the air defense units protecting Moscow and other vital Soviet cities, where it could fully utilize its high-altitude potential to intercept enemy bombers.
