The Bf 109 aircraft became known to the whole world thanks to the Battle of Britain, where it gained a reputation as a very dangerous opponent. During the war, other modifications were built, with the Me 109 G-6 "Gustav" being among the best and most produced. The first machines were delivered to combat units in 1942 and demonstrated great qualities on the Eastern Front.
This particular model represents a high-altitude fighter of the Jagdgruppe 50 unit from the autumn of 1943 during the Defense of the Reich. It was piloted by the legendary Major Hermann Graf, who was the first aviator in history to reach the 200 air victories mark. His aircraft went down in history with its completely unique camouflage with a red-and-white tulip leaf motif on the engine cowling and a rich list of kills on the rudder.
The Bf 109 aircraft first flew in 1935 and was developed in Willy Messerschmitt's design office. It stood out with its excellent 12-cylinder in-line engine in a small airframe, which allowed for easy production and quick repairs. It was the backbone of the German Air Force throughout the war and achieved the most kills of Allied aircraft.
