About the pilot: Joachim Marseille
Hans-Joachim Marseille “The Star of Africa” is one of the most legendary fighter aces in history and, according to his contemporaries, he was the most talented pilot of World War II. In the harsh conditions of the North African desert, he perfected the art of forward-firing and became the most successful German pilot on the Western Front with a total of 158 kills. His name is inextricably linked to the Messerschmitt Bf 109F-4 “Friedrich” (most often with the yellow number 14), in which he reached his absolute peak – including the still unbeaten record of 17 enemy aircraft shot down in a single day (September 1, 1942). Marseille excelled not only with incredible shooting efficiency with minimal ammunition consumption, but also with his chivalrous behavior towards defeated opponents, which makes his desert machine one of the most attractive and historically significant subjects for modelers.

The Messerschmitt Bf-109 was a German fighter aircraft designed by Willy Messerschmitt in the mid-1930s. It had a top speed of over 600 km/h, was armed with two 7.92 mm machine guns and one 20 mm cannon, and was the most produced fighter aircraft in history with over 33,000 built. The Bf-109 played a key role in the Battle of Britain and was flown by German aces during World War II. Although successful, it was notorious for being difficult to control. It was also used for ground attack and reconnaissance missions, and continued to be used after World War II.
