The M10 tank destroyer was built on the reliable Sherman tank chassis but received a new sloped hull and an open-topped rotating turret. Its main weapon was a powerful 76mm gun capable of penetrating the armor of most standard German tanks. While the open turret reduced crew protection against artillery shrapnel, it also provided an excellent view of the battlefield, which was absolutely crucial for the fast-paced tactics of tank hunters.
