The Lancia Lince armored vehicle was essentially a faithful copy of the British Daimler Dingo reconnaissance vehicle, which the Italians captured during the fighting in North Africa. The machine retained the excellent driving characteristics of the original, including independent suspension and four-wheel drive. The vehicle featured a low silhouette, which facilitated camouflage, and provided the crew with basic protection against small arms fire. However, mass production did not start until just before the Italian capitulation, so most of the produced units were taken over by the German army.
