The First American Turboprop Airliner

This elegant machine entered service in the late nineteen fifties as the very first large American turboprop commercial airliner. Designers equipped it with a quartet of powerful engines with huge propellers, giving the aircraft fantastic performance and the ability to operate even from shorter runways. Furthermore, its robust airframe proved so successful that it became the basis for the development of the famous P-3 Orion maritime patrol and anti-submarine aircraft, which successfully flies in military service to this day.
