Four Rear-Mounted Engines and a Retractable Wheel
This elegant machine catches the eye at first glance with its unconventional placement of power units. All four turbofan engines are grouped in pairs at the very rear of the fuselage, beneath the T-tail surfaces. This solution provided passengers with an unprecedentedly quiet cabin and clean aerodynamic lines on the wings. However, placing the heavy engines at the back posed a massive challenge for the empty aircraft's center of gravity. Designers solved this with a curious retractable wheel hidden in the tail section, which the aircraft leaned on during parking and loading to prevent tipping backwards.
Eastern Bloc Fleet and Government Specials
Our offer will bring immense joy to any fan of commercial aviation history. You can enrich your collection with iconic machines flying in the colors of national carriers from the former Eastern Bloc. Here you will find precise models of Tarom, Interflug, LOT Polish Airlines, Malév, or the Cuban company Cubana. A huge attraction are, of course, the various historical versions of the Soviet Aeroflot and rare models of the North Korean company Air Koryo. For connoisseurs, we also offer the government special of the German Luftwaffe or the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations.
