Heinkel He-177: Strategic Bomber of the Luftwaffe

The He-177 Greif was designed with the ambitious goal of creating a heavy bomber capable of dive-bombing. To reduce aerodynamic drag, engineers chose an unusual propulsion solution—although the aircraft appeared to be twin-engined, its massive nacelles housed a total of four engines. Each pair was coupled to drive a single large four-blade propeller. While this complex solution provided excellent aerodynamics, it also caused frequent overheating and technical issues that plagued the aircraft throughout much of its operational service.

Collector's Value in a Compact Scale

Given the enormous dimensions of the real aircraft (a wingspan of over 30 meters), models in the 1:144 scale are an ideal choice for collectors with limited space. Die-cast metal models with plastic parts from the Atlas Models brand maintain a high level of detail despite their smaller size. They feature an accurate depiction of the fuselage shape, the typical glazed nose, and historically faithful Luftwaffe camouflage schemes. It is an accessible and visually appealing piece capturing one of the Third Reich's most ambitious aviation projects.
