Fokker Dr.I: An Icon of Aerial Dogfights
The Fokker Dr.I triplane was developed as a response to the excellent maneuverability of the British Sopwith Triplane. Although it was not among the fastest aircraft of its time and suffered from certain structural shortcomings, its agility and rate of climb made it a deadly weapon in the hands of experienced pilots. The aircraft was armed with a pair of synchronized Spandau machine guns that allowed firing through the propeller arc, providing pilots with a significant tactical advantage in dogfights over the Western Front.
