The Churchill tank was designed primarily to provide direct support for attacking infantry, which resulted in its relatively low speed but, on the other hand, extremely thick armor. Its typical chassis with tracks running around the entire hull ensured excellent mobility even in the most difficult terrain. Over time, it was upgraded and equipped with increasingly powerful guns. It made history during the ill-fated Dieppe Raid, but fully proved its qualities during the campaigns in North Africa, Italy, and after the Normandy landings.
