A Turret Fighter with a Surprise

The concept of the Defiant was highly unconventional for its time—the aircraft lacked any forward-firing armament. Instead, it relied on a massive powered dorsal turret with four machine guns located behind the pilot. During its early deployments, Defiants caught German pilots by surprise. Mistaking them visually for standard Hurricanes, the enemy often attacked from the rear hemisphere, flying straight into a devastating barrage of fire. Once this tactic was exposed, the aircraft became an easy target during the day and was subsequently successfully reassigned as a night fighter.

Historical Accuracy by Oxford

In this category, we have a beautiful piece prepared for you from the traditional manufacturer Oxford in the popular 1:72 scale. The model represents a machine of the legendary No. 264 Squadron RAF, which achieved the greatest success with the Defiants at the beginning of the war. The craftsmanship excels in the accurate rendering of that massive gun turret and the typical British camouflage. Thanks to the combination of a heavy metal fuselage and fine plastic details, you will get a piece for your display case that perfectly complements your early WWII fighter collection.
