The Comet tank was developed as a direct response to the vulnerability of older British machines in the face of heavy German tanks. It inherited the reliable chassis from the Cromwell tank but received a completely new, more spacious turret and, above all, a powerful 77mm gun. This weapon could effectively penetrate the armor of the feared Tiger and Panther machines. Thanks to its high speed, reliability, and firepower, the Comet became a favorite among crews and fought until the very end of the war in Europe.
