Battleship Bismarck
The battleship Bismarck was one of the largest battleships ever built in Europe. It was built by the German Navy between 1936 and 1940. At the time of its launch, the Bismarck was considered the most modern and largest battleship in the world. Her main armament consisted of eight 380mm guns. In May 1941, Bismarck, along with the heavy cruiser Prinz Eugen, embarked on Operation Rheinübung, a mission to ambush British convoys in the Atlantic. After several engagements with British vessels, Bismarck was badly damaged and her captain subsequently decided to sink her. Of the 2,200 crew, only 114 men could be saved. The sinking of the Bismarck was one of the most significant achievements of the British Navy during World War II and marked a significant loss for the German Kriegsmarine.
