Tupolev 154 The Tupolev 154 was a Soviet airliner developed in the 1960s as a competitor to contemporary Western aircraft such as the Boeing 727 or Douglas DC-9. The aircraft was designed as a three-engine jet airliner that could transport up to 180 passengers over distances of up to 5,000 km. The Tupolev 154 was a very popular aircraft in the countries of the former Soviet Union and also in several other countries of the Eastern Bloc.
