Tupolev 154 The Tupolev 154 was a Soviet airliner developed in the 1960s as a competitor to contemporary Western aircraft such as the Boeing 727 or Douglas DC-9. The aircraft was designed as a three-engine jet airliner that could transport up to 180 passengers over distances of up to 5,000 km. The Tupolev 154 was a very popular aircraft in the countries of the former Soviet Union and also in several other countries of the Eastern Bloc. It was manufactured from 1968 until 2013, when production was completely stopped. During this time, over 1,000 units of this aircraft were produced.
