About the Messerschmitt Me 262:
This aircraft is the first combat-deployed jet engine. It took off on April 18, 1941. From the beginning, it was designed as a fighter to fight for air superiority. However, Adolf Hitler's personal intervention forced the designers to design the aircraft as a so-called lightning bomber. This decision delayed successful deployment by at least two years. Until the end of the war, however, it was the unrivalled best fighter, which was able to outspeed the American Mustangs by 200 km/h. The main failure of this aircraft lies on the shoulders of the German Ministry of Aviation, which did not correctly guess the original vision of the aircraft.
