About the aircraft and the pilot

The Fokker D.VII (here in the version built under license by Ostdeutsche Albatros Werke) was such a feared and excellent aircraft that the Allies explicitly ordered the surrender of all these machines under the terms of the armistice.

Lieutenant Wilhelm Leusch (5 kills in total) took command of Jasta 19 in October 1918. The fuselage of his personal aircraft, with its characteristic yellow nose and blue fuselage, was decorated with a precise painting of a white dragon on a black background. This was a direct copy of a popular advertisement for Unterberg & Helme engine ignitions at the time. The aircraft was photographed under French control at the very end of the war.
Fokker D.VII
The Fokker D.VII was a German single-seat fighter aircraft that served during World War I. It was one of the best and most powerful fighter aircraft of the entire conflict, designed by designer Reinhold Platz and manufactured by Fokker, with the OAW version built under license at the Ostdeutsche Albatros Werke factory. The Fokker D.VII was first used on the Western Front in the spring of 1918 and quickly gained immense respect among Allied pilots because it could "hang on the propeller" and shoot upwards without going into a spin.
The aircraft was powered by reliable Mercedes or BMW engines and armed with two synchronized Spandau machine guns. It was such a feared machine that under the terms of the Armistice of November 1918, it was explicitly ordered that Germany must immediately surrender all remaining Fokker D.VII aircraft to the Allies. In total, around 3,300 of these aircraft were produced. After World War I, it continued to serve in many countries (including interwar Czechoslovakia), and several rare examples are still preserved in museums around the world.
