The F6F Hellcat was an airborne fighter aircraft produced by the Grumman Aircraft Engineering Corporation. It was powered by a Pratt & Whitney R-2800 Double Wasp engine with over 2,000 horsepower and armed with six Browning machine guns. It was successfully deployed during World War II and the Korean War in various roles. During the Battle of the Philippines, American Hellcats shot down more than 500 Japanese aircraft. Today, only a few restored Hellcats can be seen in museums and at air shows.
