The Chengdu J-10C, also known as the Vigorous Dragon, is a modern Chinese multi-role fighter of the 4.5th generation. It was developed by the Chengdu Aircraft Industry Group as a successor to older aircraft types.
The J-10C is the latest mass-produced variant of the original J-10, which entered service with the People's Liberation Army Air Force (PLAAF) around 2018. Unlike older versions, it has an improved engine intake design and is equipped with a modern Chinese WS-10 Taihang engine.
The aircraft uses a specific delta wing in combination with canard wings, which provides it with exceptional maneuverability. The J-10C is equipped with cutting-edge avionics, an advanced AESA radar, and a modern cockpit with wide-angle displays. The aircraft has one 23mm cannon and 11 mounting points for a wide range of the most advanced Chinese weapons, including long-range anti-aircraft missiles PL-15 and guided bombs for attacks on ground targets. The aircraft reaches a maximum speed of over Mach 1.8.
The J-10C serves as a key multi-role aircraft for the Chinese Air Force for air superiority, air defense and precision strikes in all weather conditions. This advanced version has also been an export success and has been delivered to Pakistan under the designation J-10CE. The J-10C currently forms the backbone of the Chinese Air Force, operating alongside the heavier J-16 fighters and the fifth-generation J-20 stealth aircraft.
