An-225 Antonov The An-225 Mriya is the largest aircraft in the world, developed in the 1980s by the Soviet Antonov design bureau. It is a six-engine aircraft with a payload capacity of up to 250 tons, making it ideal for transporting exceptionally large and heavy cargoes. The An-225 was developed as a transport aircraft for carrying space rockets and modules within the Buran program of the Soviet Union. The aircraft was intended to be capable of transporting the Buran space shuttle on its back. In 1988, the An-225 was first introduced to the public and achieved several world records in the cargo aircraft category. The aircraft is 84 meters long, has a wingspan of 88.4 meters, and a height of 18.1 meters. It is powered by six Lotarev D-18T turboprop engines with a total thrust of 300,000 lbf. The An-225 has a maximum speed of 850 km/h and a range of up to 15,400 km.
