The Aérospatiale SA 321 Super Frelon was a heavy tri-engine transport and helicopter type developed by Sud Aviation (later Aérospatiale) in the 1960s for the French Navy. It was the largest helicopter produced in Western Europe and had a wide range of uses as a cargo and transport helicopter, including military operations, rescue missions and civilian services. The Super Frelon was capable of carrying up to 38 fully armed soldiers or heavy cargo equipment weighing up to 5 tons. It was produced from 1966 to 1981 and a total of 99 were built during that time. The Super Frelon was deployed in war conflicts such as the Gulf War, as well as in many peacekeeping missions.
