Tupolev TU144
The TU-144 is a Soviet supersonic transport aircraft that was in service from 1968 to 1999. It was the first civil supersonic aircraft to enter regular service. The TU-144 was developed and built in the Soviet Union as a response to the American supersonic Boeing 2707, which, however, was never put into service. The TU-144 was capable of speeds of up to Mach 2.35 (approximately 2,900 km/h) and could carry up to 140 passengers. However, the aircraft was prone to technical problems and had several crashes, which led to its low reliability and high maintenance costs. Due to these problems, the operation of the TU-144 was limited after several years, and was eventually replaced by more modern aircraft. Although the TU-144 is no longer in service, it is still considered a significant step in the history of aviation, pushing the boundaries of technical progress and competition between the Soviet Union and the United States.
