The Messerschmitt Bf-109 was a German fighter aircraft designed by Willy Messerschmitt in the mid-1930s. It had a maximum speed of over 600 km/h, was equipped with two 7.92 mm machine guns and one 20 mm cannon, and was the most produced fighter aircraft in history with more than 33,000 units manufactured. The Bf-109 played a key role in the Battle of Britain and was flown by German aces during World War II. Despite its success, it was known for being difficult to fly. It was also used for ground attack and reconnaissance missions and continued to be used after World War II.
