Handley Page Halifax
The Handley Page Halifax was a British heavy bomber used during World War II. It first flew in October 1939 and served in the RAF until 1946. The Halifax was one of the most important RAF bombers and played an important role in the fight against Germany. The aircraft was equipped with four Bristol Hercules radial engines with an output of 1,615 hp. It had a capacity for seven crew members and could carry up to 6,000 kg of bombs. The Halifax was also equipped with defensive turrets with machine guns, which protected it from enemy air forces. The Halifax was used in strategic raids on German cities, but also in night attacks on submarines and ships. It was a reliable aircraft with good reach and high speed, which earned the respect of the crews. In total, more than 6,000 Halifax aircraft were produced in various versions. After the war, some were adapted for civilian use, for example as transport aircraft or for fire protection purposes.
