The F-14 Tomcat was a carrier fighter aircraft manufactured by Grumman for the US Navy. It was armed with a six-barrel cannon and various types of rockets and guided missiles. It was powered by two turboprop engines with afterburning and reached a maximum speed of Mach 2.34. The F-14 Tomcat, made famous by the film Top Gun, has seen service in several conflicts. It was equipped with advanced long-range radar and some aircraft have been modernized. A total of 712 were built and served in the US Navy from 1974 to 2006.
