De Havilland Tiger Moth
The De Havilland Tiger Moth is a British two-seater biplane designed for pilot training and sports flying. It was developed in 1931 by de Havilland and became one of the most successful and popular aircraft in its class. The Tiger Moth had a metal fuselage and wooden wings covered with fabric. It was powered by a De Havilland Gipsy Major inline two-cylinder engine with an output of 130 hp and had a speed of up to 165 km/h (102 mph). The Tiger Moth became a popular aircraft for pilot training during World War II and also served as a liaison and observation aircraft. More than 8,800 Tiger Moth aircraft were produced during the war. After the war, many Tiger Moth aircraft were sold to private owners and became popular for sport flying and aerobatics. Today, some Tiger Moths are still in operation as historic aircraft, used for sightseeing flights and special events. The Tiger Moth is also known for its distinctive appearance and is often used in films and television series set during World War II.
