The Airbus A340 is a long-range, wide-body transport aircraft manufactured by Airbus. It was designed in the 1980s as a four-engine wide-body aircraft to compete with the Boeing 747 and McDonnell Douglas DC-10/MD-11. The A340 comes in four variants: A340-200, A340-300, A340-500 and A340-600. The -200 and -300 models have a capacity of 239-440 passengers, while the -500 and -600 models can carry up to 440-475 passengers.
