Vickers Viscount 700
The Vickers Viscount 700 was a British short- and medium-range turboprop airliner. It was developed by Vickers-Armstrongs Ltd. in the 1950s and first flew in 1950. It was the world's first commercial aircraft powered by turboprop engines. The Viscount 700 had a capacity of up to 75 passengers and a range of up to 3,220 km. It was a very successful aircraft, with over 400 sold to various countries and regions around the world. The Viscount 700 was designed with passenger comfort and safety in mind. It was fitted with vibration and noise dampeners, which meant it was much quieter and more comfortable than other aircraft of the time. It also had a modern autopilot, which meant it was much easier for the crew to control. However, with increasing competition from jet aircraft, the Viscount 700 eventually became uncompetitive and was replaced by more modern aircraft in the 1960s. Some Viscounts are still in service with private or regional airlines around the world.
