The Douglas DC-3 (civilian version) and the C-47 Skytrain (military version) are two versions of the same aircraft, which were developed in 1935 by the Douglas Aircraft Company in the USA. The DC-3/C-47 became one of the most successful and influential airliners in the history of aviation.
The DC-3 was intended for civil air transport, where it became a pioneer of the modern age of commercial aviation. Its capabilities allowed aviation to transition from relatively slow and uncomfortable aircraft to fast, reliable, and comfortable aircraft. The DC-3 was very popular with airlines around the world and flew until the end of the 20th century.
