Mitsubishi A5M1
The Mitsubishi A5M1, also known as the "Claude", was a deck fighter aircraft used by the Japanese Imperial Naval Air Force during the 1930s. It was the first all-metal single-engine fighter aircraft of Japanese design with an enclosed cabin and retractable landing gear. The A5M1 was developed in 1935 and first flew in February 1936. It was armed with two 7.7 mm calibre machine guns and powered by a Nakajima Kotobuki 2 radial engine, which allowed it to reach a top speed of up to 440 km/h. The aircraft had excellent manoeuvrability and good climbability. The A5M1 was produced in several versions and was used in a number of combat operations during the Second Sino-Japanese War and World War II. It was very successful and made a significant contribution to Japanese aviation in its early stages.
