Hawker Fury
The Hawker Fury was a British single-seat fighter aircraft from the period between World War I and World War II. It was the last Hawker monoplane before the development of retractable landing gear aircraft. The first flight was made by a prototype Hawker Fury in March 1931. The aircraft entered service with the Royal Air Force in 1936. At the time of its introduction into service, the Hawker Fury was the fastest monoplane of its time. It was equipped with a Rolls-Royce Kestrel engine and reached a top speed of 370 mph (595 km/h). The aircraft was produced in two versions, the Fury I and Fury II. The Fury I was armed with two 7.7 mm Vickers machine guns, while the Fury II was armed with six 7.7 mm Browning machine guns. The Fury was also used by several countries as a basic fighter aircraft, including Canada, Yugoslavia and Spain. The Hawker Fury was replaced by more modern aircraft during World War II, but was still in service in some countries until the late 1950s. Several examples are still preserved and are flown as part of collections and air shows.
