About JV 44 ''Papagei Staffel''
Jagdverbang 44 (JV 44) established in February 1945 was a unit composed entirely of flying aces of the German Luftwaffe. Pilots flew Messerschmitt Me-262 jets under the command of Adolf Galland.
Due to the great vulnerability of Me-262 aircraft during take-off and landing, the so-called Platzschutzstaffel (Airport Protection Squadron) was established with Focke Wulf Fw-190D fighter aircraft, which ensured their protection from Allied fighters. To easily distinguish the Fw-190D aircraft from ground-based anti-aircraft defenses, the underside of the aircraft was painted bright red with contrasting white stripes. The squadron was thus nicknamed Papagei staffel - parrot squadron.

About JV 44 ''Papagei Staffel''
Jagdverbang 44 (JV 44), founded in February 1945, was a unit composed entirely of air aces of the German Luftwaffe. The pilots flew Messerschmitt Me-262 jets under the command of Adolf Galland.
Due to the Me-262's great vulnerability to take-off and landing, a so-called Platzschutzstaffel ( airfield protection squadron ) was established with Focke Wulf Fw-190D fighter aircraft to provide protection from Allied fighters. To make the Fw-190Ds easily distinguishable by ground-based air defence, the underside of the aircraft was painted bright red with contrasting white stripes. The squadron was thus nicknamed the Parrot Staffel - the parrot squadron.

The Focke-Wulf Fw-190 was a German single-engine fighter aircraft with a powerful BMW 801 engine, a speed of up to 657 km/h and excellent mid-altitude performance. It was produced in many variants, armed with guns and machine guns, and was often deployed as a fighter-bomber against Allied convoys. The Fw-190 replaced older German aircraft and was popular with pilots for its speed, agility and power. It was deployed on all fronts of the war and produced until the end of the war.
