Bristol Beaufighter
The Bristol Beaufighter was a British twin-engined fighter aircraft deployed during and after World War II. It was developed by the Bristol Aeroplane Company as an improved version of its predecessor, the Bristol Beaufort. The Beaufighter was armed with four 20 mm guns and up to six 7.7 mm machine guns and could carry up to 900 kg of bombs. It was powered by a pair of Bristol Hercules engines of up to 1,720 hp each and reached a top speed of up to 533 km/h (5,000 mph). It also had excellent manoeuvrability and excellent climb capability. The aircraft was deployed on many battlefields, including Europe, Africa, the Middle East and the Pacific. It was successful in combat against enemy aircraft such as German bombers, but also proved successful in attacks on ground targets such as ships, vehicles and buildings. The Bristol Beaufighter was produced in various versions, including a night fighter and a maritime patrol aircraft. In total, more than 5,900 Beaufighters were produced, many of which were in service until the late 1950s.
