Avro Vulcan
The Avro Vulcan (also referred to as the Hawker Siddeley Vulcan) was a British strategic bomber developed in the 1950s. It was part of the so-called British Strategic Triad, a set of weapons for nuclear deterrence in the event of conflict. The Vulcan was a very unique aircraft, with its distinctive delta wings and quad jet engines. Its striking appearance and ability to carry nuclear weapons made it a symbol of the Cold War and British military aviation. The aircraft reached a top speed of up to 972 km/h. It had modern avionics, including radar and navigation and control systems. It was also equipped with a system to transmit data and exchange information with the ground. The Vulcan was deployed in several conflicts, including the Falklands War, where it carried out raids on Argentine positions. In 1982, one of the aircraft even returned from the Falklands after 16 hours of flight - a world record at the time. The aircraft was produced in several versions and served in the British Air Force until 1984, when it was replaced by more modern aircraft.
