An American Transport Giant
The CH-37 helicopter was developed for the US Army and Marine Corps to transport heavy equipment and large numbers of troops. Its unique design, with engines located outside the main fuselage, allowed for a huge, unobstructed cargo area with large clamshell doors in the nose. Although soon replaced by turbine-powered machines, the Mojave remains a fascinating piece of engineering of its era.
